1.splendid or sumptuous in appearance, coloring, etc.; magnificent: a gorgeous gown; a gorgeous sunset.
2. Informal . extremely good, enjoyable, or pleasant: I had a gorgeous time.
 
it was an interesting day overall.  this session was on 9.11.11.  the 10th anniversary of a day that holds emotion well within it’s boundaries of midnight and just before midnight.  people have ideas of this day that extend far beyond a typical day where things went wrong.  and people were hurt.  often days like that affect a family.  a single family.  a grouping of friends. 
 
instead this day is a day that affected a nation.  nations. 
 
and earlier in the day … i remembered being in a copier room in the back hallway of central elementary school in a little area of virginia.  very too much close to what i was watching on a wobbly black and white television propped upon a bookshelf for us to see.  i remember missing groups of students, glued to what i was watching.  scared for what happened.  terrified of what was going to happen still.
 
i was in a very different place in my life then.
 
when this client and i scheduled this session.   there was no overthinking about the date.  it was a day in september, when we would have beautiful weather and a chance to meet and make beautiful memories and images. 
 
and so we agreed to meet at lake harriet.  where i found out a few days earlier there was about to be a hugemongous gathering for the 10th anniversary of 9.11.01.  gah.  and that’s when i found the peace gardens.  which is by no means a secret little place … but ended up being the most perfect location for our session. 
 
gorgeous.
 
the light was gorgeous.  the family is gorgeous.  heck.  even their dog bounded out of the car full of gorgeous. 
 
 

and it was a perfectly perfect evening.

we were not alone in all of our gorgeousness.  there were loads of photographers out there enjoying the evening.

and the fact that this is now one of my most favorite places to go for pictures … makes me smile bigtime.  the colors.  and the light.  and the flowers.  big.  smiles.

oh. those.  toes.  STRETCH!

another wonderful piece of this puzzle … is that this lovely family received/purchased (? i’m not sure on the correct wordage here.)  their session through a pretty amazing group of people … swing for sophia … which celebrate’s the life of my friend’s sweet little girl.  their golf tournament raises money for Faith’s Lodge, (from their site) “The mission of Faith’s Lodge is to provide a place where parents and families facing the serious illness or loss of a child can retreat to reflect on the past, renew strength for the present and build hope for the future.”

an ice cream scoop of an evening.  topped off with whipped cream and a cherry.

(the fact that my dad had the kids over at the beach while we had our session … and the kids weren’t quite ready to leave and i was able to just wander around the gardens, peacefully, and take pictures of flowers.  do you know how much i love flowers?  and colors?  if it weren’t for how much fun i have when photographing families and kids and babies … i would probably just walk around taking pictures of flowers.)

this mama finds herself behind the camera quite a bit, she told me.  (i can totally understand that!) and so i feel so thankful that we were able to capture some memories for her to cherish … cuddling with her daughter in FRONT of the camera.  i know just how precious these photos will be to her.
